Synopsis

The Certified Export Professional course is an experiential learning programme that provides vocational training in export and international trade aimed to in-still export skills and competence in Learners who are interested in entering the export business or expanding internationally.

As the world becomes a global marketplace, companies both small and big are growing increasingly dependent on their ability to conduct business internationally especially in developing countries whose economies are largely export-dependent. The biggest obstacle to international expansion continues to be the lack of qualified export and trade knowledge and talents. These companies are looking for such expertise in order to grow their business internationally.

As there are wide opportunities in career development in this niche sector, Business Executives and Fresh Graduates master this course and acquire the relevant professional skills in exporting. This includes an understanding on the fundamentals of exporting, adapting their products and services to meet international requirements, selecting markets that have potential for their products and services, formulating effective marketing strategies, sourcing for buyers and managing transactions and shipment of orders.  In other word it trains them with all the practical knowledge to operate an export business effectively.

  1. Objectives
    The main objective of this course is to train learners to master the A-Z of exporting and to be able to contribute to the growth of their companies in the international market or venture into their own export business and manage it successfully.Besides, it will also train and assist them

    • to adopt the best practices in exporting;
    • to provide expertise and talents to enter the export business, tap new markets or expand in existing markets;
    • to assist in developing an export business plan based on formulation of effective marketing strategies via extensive market research and assessments and to implement the plan to meet export targets
    • to provide an understanding on the various export marketing tools and platforms and to assist in the selection of the most appropriate tools for their export business and
    • to provide the knowledge and expertise in the various aspect of export management that includes the export financing, logistics, appointment of overseas agents and other export management skills that could be detrimental for the international expansion of their organization and to meet long term goals and targets.
  2. Learning Outcome
    After completing this course, the trainees/learners will be able:

    • To have acquired sufficient knowledge and expertise to drive their organization to go international or expand existing markets or enter new markets. And this could mean increase in export revenue.
    • To understand and tap the potentials provided by the government via incentives, free trade agreements and other measures taken to expand Malaysia’s export performance and market base.
    • To equip with the understanding of the importance of how to make a product viable in the international market by developing a product or service and find the best suppliers and customers
    • To understand on the export requirements of various markets and to adapt the products to meet these requirements
    • To select the most suitable export financing and insurance scheme to ensure export risks and litigations are avoided and to select the best form of export documentation and shipping procedures that could reduce costs and bring maximum export revenue.
    • To have had acquired skills on marketing management responsibilities, e-marketing, high-tech marketing, database mining and analysis, product/brand management, industrial and consumer product sales, market analysis, and entrepreneurial activities
  3. Pre-Requisite
    Diploma / Degree or Equivalent in any subjects or 3 Credits in SPM with 5 years working experience in International Business
  4. Target Participants
    Trainees representing Malaysian SME manufacturers and service providers which have a product or service that is export ready or could be adapted to meet international market requirements are planning to expand their global market base.
    This includes Owners /Directors /CEOs, Export Managers and Executives and Business Executives who would like to master the exporting skills and to acquire practical knowledge on exporting.Others are Entrepreneurs, Fresh Graduates and other Working Adults who would like to venture into the export business.

Exemptions

Those trainees who have attended and acquired the Professional Certificate in Export Management issued by the European International University will be exempted from attending the Modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 9. Trainees need only attend or complete modules 6, 7, 8 and 10 in order to qualify for the Certified Export Professional.

  1. Certification Body

    The Certified Export Professional will be awarded by the European International University of France to trainees who have passed all assessments to the satisfaction of the Trainer/s.

    The European International University, Paris, France (EIU) – www.eiu.ac, is a private higher education  establishment authorized by the French  Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, in accordance to and in compliance with the French Education Act. The EIU was incorporated in Paris, France, on 29 May 2018.   2. Assessments

    The trainees will be required to develop an Export Plan for their employers or on their own during the 6 months period and an examination of subjective and multi choice questions.

Tham Sing Kow: 

He has over 40 years’ experience in international trade, export promotion and marketing, international business development, industrial development, investment promotion, technology transfer and licensing arrangements, public relations & communications, branding, public affairs, overseas customer relationship management, alliance building and sustainability, and environmental issues.

He also has a proven track record in setting up overseas trade representative offices and development of trade and industrial relations with overseas market, including emerging markets. Tham has served in various capacities in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), including 10 years abroad as Malaysian Trade Commissioner to Moscow (USSR), Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Caracas (Venezuela). At MITI Headquarters, he has served as the Principal Asst. Director in the International Trade Division and the Industries Division.

After leaving MITI, Tham worked as the European Director of the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) in London, UK for 12 years covering the promotion and marketing of Malaysian timber and timber products to the European market, including public relations and communications, and related environmental/sustainability issues. Later he served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Timber Council. Following his service with MTC, he was a Consultant to the Tan Chong Group; helping them to develop their international trading business including setting up an overseas representative office in The Philippines. He also worked as Chief Operating Officer – Europe to ABRIC Berhad responsible for the exports and sales of the company products (security seals) to the European market. Currently he is a freelance Consultant and Trainer in International Trade and Business Development.

Tham holds a B.Sc. Hons in Biological Sciences from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), a LLB. Hons from London University and a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), U.K.

Dr. Abdul Kabur Ibrahim:

He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Arts and Social Sciences with Honors from the University of Malaya in 1977 and was appointed to the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service. He obtained his DBA in 2012 from Victoria University of Switzerland.

He has served as the Malaysian Trade Commissioner in Belgium and Luxemburg for 9 years and thereafter was transferred to South Africa as the Malaysian Trade Commissioner in 1992 to establish diplomatic relations and to set up the Malaysian Trade Office in Johannesburg. His main task was to promote Malaysian products and services in all the countries in the Southern African region.

He retired from the government while in South Africa and continued as a Consultant for a number of public listed and private companies covering the whole of Africa and Latin America. He was responsible for assisting them in their investments and also finding overseas markets for their products and services.

After returning to Malaysia he started his own company under the name Malaysian Export Academy. Dr. Abdul Kabur Ibrahim also sits in the Board of some Malaysian and UK incorporated companies and is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Business Administration.

He is also the President of the Malaysian Exporters Association and the Malaysian Training Providers Association; Chairman of the Foundation of Malaysian Institute of Export and Chairman of the Malaysia Madagascar Business Council.

For more than 40 years, he has been involved in International Trade in various fields including export promotion, exporting and importing, training and coaching, ecommerce and social media marketing. In addition, he has participated and spoken in many national and international forums on International Trade subjects and is also the author of the book “Going International” and the Chief Editor of the magazine “Malaysia Trade”

Our mode of delivery will be:

  1. Remote Virtual – ZOOM Platform
    14 hours of Virtual Training over two days by our qualified Trainers. The time for each day will be 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm
  1. Course Fees– The fees for this course will be RM 1,485.00 per trainee for 14 hours of virtual training using the ZOOM platform or self-paced online training using our LMS platform. This fees also includes the assessments, SST of 6% and the award of IAAP Certificate
    .
